Work, Employment and Health Group
work employment and health.pdf
|
This group is focused on international comparative research on work, employment and health. At the macroeconomic level, projects concern European employment policy and the labour market, restructuring and industrial relations. On the microeconomic level, projects focus on the development of occupations and competences, work organization and vocational training. The themes of diversity, equality, multicultural management and corporate social responsibility are studied in terms of both policy and practice. Health as a research theme is addressed at two levels: health at the workplace and healthcare as an industry. |
- Employment and industrial relations
The involvement of social partners in the process of labour market reform (Luxembourg) and structural reform (Cardiff) throughout Europe, including new member states and candidate countries, was the subject of a major study over six years (financed by SALTSA, Stockholm). A current research programme on employability, restructuring and the forecasting of jobs and skills is underway in collaboration with international partners. For the coming years, a European project on factors influencing worker mobility in Europe is planned.
- Health at work and the healthcare sector
This theme is developed along two lines within the framework of a Chair in Healthcare: health at the workplace in terms of physical and psychosocial risks, and healthcare organizations and systems oriented towards companies in the healthcare sector. A project financed by the French National Research Agency has explored the effects of restructuring on employees' health. A transnational project financed by the British Academy is currently examining issues related to the Internet as a source of health-related information from the perspective of public authorities, patients, and healthcare professionals. - Competences and vocational training
The management of competences in France was the subject of two studies conducted with GRACCO (CNRS). A study on the various approaches to the concept of competence in Europe was conducted in collaboration with Cedefop, which led to the creation of a European network (EUCLID) devoted to the study of the various models of competence. A European study was recently conducted on the strategies of trade unions for developing competences at the workplace (financed by the SALTSA Programme of the Swedish trade unions). Three projects have been financed by the Leonardo da Vinci Programme: a survey on management development in Europe; LITVETNET, which developed regional networks for vocational training in Lithuania; and DEVAPPRENT, which aims to develop an apprenticeship system in Lithuania.
- Corporate Social Responsibility, Diversity and Equality
The PRISMA project (financed by the European Programme 'Interreg') facilitated the integration of CSR strategies in SMEs in Southern Europe. The PERSEE project (Promouvoir et Etudier la Responsabilité Sociale et Environnementale de l'Entreprise) has been conducted for the past four years with companies of the Midi-Pyrénées region. A current study is aimed at exploring how the regional divisions of large public-service groups adopt and implement the concept of CSR or sustainable development. Other studies, with the ETUI and Cedefop, addressed labour market activation strategies for youth and seniors and workplace training for workers at risk. Two further Leonardo da Vinci projects dealt with equality and diversity in the European steel industry and the reconversion of seniors as management consultants. Several comparative research projects on the management of diversity and equality are currently in progress.
